Success of the Second Edition of the Xana Foundation’s Inclusive Summer Camp

A total of 13 children aged between 8 and 12 enjoyed a week of adapted activities, sports, and leisure at the Castelldefels Olympic Canal.

September 3, 2026. Summer should always be synonymous with play, freedom, and new friendships. With this in mind, this August the Xana Foundation organized the second edition of its inclusive summer camp. The initiative was designed to give children living with serious illnesses, together with their brothers and sisters, the opportunity to share an unforgettable week filled with activities, sports, and fun.

This second edition brought together 13 boys and girls aged between 8 and 12, who enjoyed a week of activities at the Castelldefels Olympic Canal. The venue became a setting for laughter, challenges overcome, and shared moments, thanks to a qualified team and activities designed to be accessible to everyone:

  • Water adventures: Adapted kayaking, rowing, Big SUP, and inflatable water parks.
  • Aim and fun: Archery sessions and outdoor games.
  • Time to share: Swimming in the pool and shared meals.

The value of building a group and providing families with a break

The summer camp also fostered deep and meaningful connections. For Alex Montesinos, the camp coordinator and Family Manager at the Foundation, one of the most rewarding aspects was seeing the children build relationships and enjoy the experience together: “They really formed a group. There were some children who were new and didn’t know each other very well, but they were welcomed with open arms and had a great time. The parents told us how much fun they were having and that they were actually looking forward to the next day so they could come back to camp.”

At the Foundation, we emphasize the importance of having inclusive leisure spaces during the summer holidays, allowing children to enjoy quality time, make new friends, discover different activities without limitations, and share experiences.

With this second edition of the summer camp, the Foundation continues to support initiatives that provide families with opportunities for leisure and ensure that boys and girls can take part in recreational and sporting activities with the adaptations and support they need. Ultimately, it is about giving them the opportunity to enjoy the summer, connect with others, and experience new things.
