A little dreamer with big chestnut eyes that convey kindness and enthusiasm, long hair, a tender smile and wielding a magic wand, like the fairies she fantasised about so much.
She wears an X shield in her heart and a heroine’s mask, connecting her to the creative universe of artist Edgar Plans, who wanted to support the Fundación Xana with this special drawing. An illustration that features the distinctive strokes of his renowned Animal Heroes tribe, his unmistakable little creatures with powers and a global reputation for critical awareness.
"For the drawing, I was inspired by her name, Xana, which holds a great deal of significance in Asturian mythology and is tied to nature, forests and rivers. I wasn’t lucky enough to meet her, but her family told me about her, about her smile and mischief, about her love for animals, her passion for horses, how full of life she was, and how much she liked fairies. Thinking about all this, I pictured a little dreamer, full of smiles and endless energy, wanting to be an astronaut or whatever else comes to mind. She’s always dreaming and creative, and she brings hope and joy to all the kids who see her," explains the artist, originally from Madrid but living and working in Gijón since 1995.
The drawing is a portrait of Xana "taken to my universe. Rather than just the physical appearance, I’m drawn to the inner essence of a person and their expression, that incredible smile children offer us despite the challenges they face. They’re the ones who lift us up first, and I wanted to show that in the drawing: how kids, like Xana, bring so much happiness."
Edgar Plans has his own studio and exhibits his work worldwide, and at the Xana Foundation, we couldn’t be more grateful for this magical Xana heroine he has created for us.
